PIARSAIGH NA DROMODA V VALENTIA

The Dromid Pearses Senior Team travelled to Valentia for their first outing of the 2008 season. The pitch at Chapeltown was in great condition and there was a strong wind blow up towards the road end goal.. It was very encouraging to see 22 players togged out for the Pearses, including Niall O'Shea who lined out at corner forward for his first Senior start.

It was a game of 2 halves as Piarsaigh na Dromoda enjoyed the aid of the breeze in the first half, but found it hard to get on the scoresheet. Kevin Jackie O'Sullivan began the scoring, followed by a free from Thomas Curran. Both sides were guilty of some wayward shooting until debutant Niall O'Shea scored a sublime point over his left shoulder from way out on the wing. Both teams scored a point each before the break to leave it Piarsaigh na Dromoda 0-04 Valentia 0-01. This 3 point lead was far from enough facing into the very stiff breeze in the second half.

It took a while for both sides to settle until Valentia registered 2 points. Thomas Curran then steadied the ship with another pointed free, judged to perfection in the wind. Again both teams missed numerous scoring chances, with the wind causing havoc. Piarsaigh na Dromoda were also disallowed a clear goal when wing forward Daniel Curran was adjusted to have been inside the small square before he punched a high centre to the net.

Valentia began to get on top with Paul Curran doing well, they reduced the deficit 0-05 to 0-03 before Thomas Curran again pointed from a 30 yard free, curling the ball perfectly between the sticks. The last 15 minutes of the game was camped in the Dromid half, with Valentia trying to bring the deficit back. And that they did, with John Shanahan, Paul O'Connor and Paul Curran all pointing with the aid of the wind to tie up the game. It was a nervy last few moments as Valentia had 1 or 2 more opportunities for a win, but it wasn't to be. Final score Piarsaigh na Dromoda 0-06 Valentia 0-06

PIARSAIGH NA DROMODA V ST MICHAELS-FOILMORE

Last Sunday afternoon in Pairc an Phiarsaigh in perfect conditions, Piarsaigh na Dromoda played host to St Michaels/Foilmore in the 2nd round of the 2008 South Kerry League. It was a tough physical with the visitors going 2 points ahead within the first few minut es, before disaster struck for the hosts. A short kickout was intercepted by Johnny Clifford who rattled the net. Scores were at a premium with the Pearses missing numerous chances. Their only score of the first half came from Donal Jer O'Sullivan in the 15th minute. St Michaels/Foilmore added 2 points before the break to give them a commanding 1-04 to 0-01 lead.

The second half started well with the Pearses pushing on deep into the visitors' half. They were finally rewarded, when young Joseph O'Se goaled after some good work in the corner by Fergal O'Connor. This, however, was as good as it got for the Pearses, as St Michaels/Foilmore, sensing danger, stepped up a gear and tacked on more scores. Piarsaigh na Dromoda tried hard but could only muster 2 more points before the end, from Donal Jer O'Sullivan and Jamesie ML O'Sullivan.

Final score : Piarsaigh na Dromoda 1-03 St Michaels/Foilmore 1-10

PIARSAIGH NA DROMODA V SNEEM

Played in windy conditions in Sneem, an understrength Pearses side tried in vain to secure their first 2 League points, with the concession on 3 goals being their downfall. Sneem opened the scoring, courtesy of a free from R Hussey. From there on in, it was all Dromid as Thomas Curran (4), Kevin Leary, John Curran and Joseph Shea pointed to open up a 6 point lead at half time, after playing against the strong wind, with Hussey scoring the other point from Sneem. Half time Sneem 0-02 Piarsaigh na Dromoda 0-08.

Sneem got off to the best possible start to the second half with a goal, with Thomas Curran with a pointed free. Thereafter, Sneem enjoyed their best spell (even after them being reduced to 14 men) scroing 1-03 from play. John Curran pointed to stop the rout, but was quickly cancelled out by Hussey again. It was a 2 point game entering the last 10 minutes (0-10 to 2-06). In the last few moments, both sides exchanged goals, with Daniel Curran scoring the Pearses consolaton goal right at the death.

Final score Piarsaigh na Dromoda 1-10 Sneem 3-06
