In a competition that was not completed last year it was Piarsaigh Na Dromoda who were crowned 2009 South Kerry Junior Champions on Sunday last in Ballinskelligs. Played in heavy underfoot conditions it was Dromid’s Donal Jer O’Sullivan who opened the scoring with a pointed free in the 3rd minute. Five minutes in and a high ball in, broke to Jerry Cronin who was denied a certain goal by the Dromid goalkeeper and Captain Timmy O’Sullivan. From then on Dromid were on top with Donal Jer adding 3 further frees and a point from play. Second half St Michaels/Foilmore needed to get on the scoreboard first if they were going to get back in the game however after a wide from both teams it was Chris Farley who collected a short free from Geróid O’Sullivan for Dromid’s 7th point. It was 11 minutes into the half before St Michaels/Foilmore registered their first score when Cian O’Connor kicked over a free from the 45 metre line. Dromid responded with points from Donal Jer, Chris Farley and Geróid O’Sullivan. Brian Smith kicked St Michaels/Foilmore 2nd point on the 50th minute. Centre back Kevin O’Shea kicked over a fine point from distance in the 53rd minute to complete Dromid scoring, with two minutes left Sean O’Shea goaled for St Michaels/Foilmore this was followed by a Cian O’Connor free. The team wish Micheál Ó Sé and Donal Ó Curráin who played their part in the 2009 campaign a speedy recovery from their respective injuries.
