Dromid Pearses 1 -09 v Waterville 1- 10Like the great Muhammad Ali and Joe Fraziers battles, Dromid and Waterville had to "go into battle" against each other for the 3rd time this year. Both teams had one win against each other so this was always going to be a keenly contested match with Parish Pride as well as 2 valuable County League points on offer. The match started evenly enough with Kieran Bobby and Patrick Curran swapping frees before Paddy Curran got a ball near the roadside dugout and turned and shot a fine point well out to put Waterville in front. Dromid settled well into the game and with good entreprising runs by Kevin Jackie and Dan Sheehan in the wing forward roles and Cian Hallisey and Jonathon Travers winning a good share of midfield Dromid began to dominate. This yielding 3 frees in the full forward line for Dromid which Kieran Bobby slotted all over the bar, the 3rd one from a very difficult angle on his wrong side. Paddy Curran then slotted his his 3rd point over the bar before Kieran kicked another free between the posts. The final score of the half went to Paddy Curran to reduce the lead to a minimum at the break. Kieran up by one in the shootout between the 2 gunslingers!
Half Time: DromidPearses 0 - 05 -- Waterville 0-04Unlike the other 2 games between the teams this year when the games were practically over by half time both teams came out with all to play for. Both teams kept up the frenzied pace but found scores hard to find as both teams were marshalled by tight defences. But nearly midway through the half Dromid found themselves 2 points to the good as Kieran had kicked 2 more points to a solitary reply from Paddy Curran. The game though took a dramatic twist midway through when a sloppy pass by the Dromid defence was turned over by Paddy Curran about 40 yards out and he sliced through the Dromid defence and slotted the ball to Denis carroll who made no mistake from six yards out and found the net. This goal gave a jump start to watville and especially to Denis Carroll as he was well marshalled by Aidan up to then but he kicked over a point within a minute of his goal and won 3/4 long balls put into the full forward line which yielded another point for Paddy Curran. Colm O Connor was sprung from the bench where he started due to an ankle injury and he rejunated the Dromid forwards by kicking in quick long balls around the square. Cian kept up his fine performance by kicking Dromid's first point from play from 35 yards out and game on again. Paddy Curran and Kieran swapped point once more before a brace of points from Denis Carroll and Paddy Curran gave Waterville a 4 point lead with time nearly up. Dromid made a desperate late rally and when a good passing movement by Colm and Moss O Connor and Moss lofted the ball around the square which was expertly flicked to the net by Dromid's sharpshooter Kieran there was only one point between the team with less than a minute left. Waterville won the last kickout and the final whistle blew soon after.It was a very entertaining and sporting game played at a hectic pace and the 2 points went back to Waterille.
