Dromid Pearses vs Dingle

Dromid Pearses 0 -04 -- Dingle 0- 07

Dromid took on Dingle in their first home game of the Divion 2 County League campaign. Spirits were high after a hard fought away win over Currow in the first round. Dromid lined out without Decaln O' Sullivan after suffering from a leg injury with the county seniors. Dingle took to the field were their 2 county players in tow, Diarmuid Murphy and Tommy Griffin.

The surface of the pitch was in a very poor state after a long period of bad weather so both teams found it hard going as a hop was virtually impossible, it was especially tough for both sets of forwards in trying to kick points. Dromid got off to the best possible start when Kieran Bobby O' Sullivan kicked a good point from over 30 yards in the first minute. This was promptly followed off by another long range from Kevin O' Leary, who started off the game very brightly. Dingle were slow to get into their rhythm but reduced the gap to a minimum when their wing forward kicked over their first point. The Dingle inside forwards were beginning to cause their markers a few problems and one of the trio equalised with a fine working movement up front. The Dromid full forward were causing problems inside, winning possesion but were off target twith their efforts. Jonathon Travers shot over the lead point for Dromid once again but Dingle responded with 2 quick points to take the lead for the first time. Both sides had goal scoring chances before half time when a long ball into the Dromid full forward line was missed by everyone except the Dingle corner forward who shot soccer style and it just went the wrong side of the post and Dromid responded with a run and shot by Colm(with his left foot, what was he thinking???) that went acroos the face of the goal to the relief of the Dingle contingent. Both teams went into the half time break level as on the stroke of half time Kieran Bobby made amockery of the underfoot conditions by kicking over a beauty from out on the right hand side touchline to draw the teams level.

Half Time:

DromidPearses 0 - 04 -- Dingle0-04

When the second half began the sides weren't level for long as a full in the Dromid full back line was handily taken advantage of the Dingle free taker. After a few minutes of chess both teams were not able to penetrate the defences. This was interuppted by a swift Dromid counter attack, when a fine run by Denis Shine through the heart of the Dingle backline, laid the ball off to Colm who after taking a couple of steps shot a rasper(this time with his right foot) heading for the top corner of the net but Diarmuid Murphy showing off the skills that made him the Kerry custodian made a wondeful flying save across the goal and the ball went out for a forty-five. The most disappointing aspect of this missed chance was this was Dromid's last shotin anger at the Dingle goal as they had to play second fiddle to a resolute Dingle defence for the rest of the half. Middway through the second half Padraig Sheehan got a yellow card which was promptly followed by a second yellow and red 2 minutes later along with his marker who had got booked in the first half. Dromid tried to change things around by making a series of subsitutions but the only 2 remaining scores of the game went to Dingle late on.

The main talking point after the game was the state of the pitch where both teams found it hard to make their mark on their game but this was no excuse for a very poor Dromid performance especially in the second half where there were too many players off form.

Another performance like this against Valentia will mean missing out on another South Kerry League final
