Dromid Pearses vs Currow

Dromid Pearses 0 -09 -- Currow 0- 07

Dromid got off their 2006 County league Division 2 off to the best possible start with a hard fought away victory against Currow. In a hot humid day in a wide long pitch it tested the fitness levels of each player to the limit.Dromid lined out without there County Player Declan O Sullivan, who was suffering the aftereffects of a hard tussle against Offaly the previous night but he was on standby in the dugout if the need arose.

Dromid stated off playing against a nice breeze but got off to a good start when a Kieran O' Sullivan forty five dropped around the square and was flicked nicely over the bar by Tomas Curran. Currow responded promptly to equalise and went ahead when one of the defenders broke through and pointed. Dromid had enough possession to after this but found it hard to penetrate the Currow defense. Currow went ahead when their lively corner forward pointed his second of the game and then Dromid suffered a further setback when they lost their corner forward to possible concussion after a hefty challenge when he was going down on the ball. A yellow card was shown and it could have been possibly a red. Kevin Jackie O Sullivan replaced John and was instumental in getting Dromid back on level terms when Kevin laid off a ball to Denis Shine who was fouled and Kierna slotted the free between the posts to reduce the gap. Kevin then won a good ball in the corner and kicked a fine point to equalise on the right hand side. The game was going tit for tat with play going up and down the field as both full back lines were keeping the their opponents at bay. Currow then seized the initiative with 2 points in quick succesion but just before half time Dromid reduced the arrears to the minimum after another Kieran Bobby point.

Half Time:

DromidPearses 0 - 04 -- Currow 0-05

Dromid had the slight advantage of the wind in the second half, the longer the game went on the less the advantage of the wind became. Dromid equalised through a good long range point from Colm O Connor after good work by Fergal and Moss O' Connor.Colm is becoming a regular name on the score sheets these days and himself and Jonathon Travers had a good game in the middle battling against a much taller opposition. About ten minutes into the half |Dromid regained the lead for the first time since the 1st minute of the game when Kieran Bobby slotted over a 21 yard free. At this stage Dromid brought in 2 subs,Cian hallisey and Declan O Sullivan as legs were looking tired. The subsitutions didn't have an imediate impact as Currow responed with 2 points to restore their lead again. But Declan showed why he is the full forward for the county team when he firstly kicked a forty yard free to level matters and then gave Dromid the lead once more with a fine point from play. Declan's introduction also gave Kieran Bobby a pep in his step as he moved into full forward with good effect and doubled Dromid's lead with a lovely right footed curler with less than five minutes left. Currow battled gamely to the end but their efforts proved fruitless on a day when the Dromid backline motto was "Thou Shalt Not Pass". The final whistle went with Dromid on the attack and Denis Shine,Donnie Curran and Sean (Coomleigh) O' Connor should be happy with the good battling performance of their charges. Not many teams will come out of Currow with full points so hopfully it is a pointer laid down for the rest of the County League campaign.
